Infotainment

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed. Once upon a time there was such a thing as News on TV. These days, we've sold ourselves out to entertainment over information. In fact, CNN has completely sold its soul in an effort to gain market share. Want an example? Nancy Grace. I shouldn't have to say more than that. Are we sad that some white girl got killed somewhere? Well, I'm sure somebody is. Is it news? No. Not by a long shot.

Worldwide there are issues happening that deserve our attention. Millions of people are being displaced, raped, beaten, murdered and otherwise oppressed worldwide. Atrocities on the scale of the Holocaust are currently happening in places like the Sudan, Rwanda and even Iraq. We, the country that swore "Never Again", we are allowing this to happen. America has lost it's spine when it comes to taking a moral stand in the world.

Instead we focus on celebrity news. Today: Brittney Spears has a flat stomach. Jessica Simpson is fat. Those were the 7pm stories on CNN Headline News. We allow ourselves to be fed this paste that once was real information! Entertainment has long catered to the lowest common denominator among us and the news if following suit. If you don't think it's pathetic, you haven't been paying attention.

Why does the corner of the TV have a stock market ticker on it? The Dow Jones is not an indicator of market health. It's an indicator of how rich the rich are getting. Show us the unemployment rate. Show us our GDP. Show us how weak the dollar is now. Give us information! Let us decide!

Don't hide the facts from us. There once was a time when a news organization hunted for the truth. They broke stories. They wanted to delve into the things nobody else would tell us. But not now. Oh no. The battle for ratings is too great. The parent companies of the media, like the defense contractor GE, won't be able to push it's product as effectively. Sure they'll spread the lies about the buildup to war in Iraq. They stood to make billions off it. And did. Screw you, GE!

And CNN will wave Nancy Grace and Mr Hughley at us and expect us to take them seriously. They're puppets. They're socks with eyes glued to them meant to entertain us while we're robbed of our very soul.

America once stood for something in the world. Now we only defend those with the same skin color as the majority. Hell, what's half a million Africans compared to one dead white girl? Sure Nancy, let's do another show about that.

There are things in the world that matter. But you won't see any of them on TV.
